0 stars - DNF shelved.I’m not going to rate this book because I simply couldn’t bring myself to finish it and maybe it would have gotten better, but by about 1/3-1/2 of the way through, I couldn’t take anymore. What was it that didn’t work, you ask? Well, I love tormented heroes. Cursed, scarred, broken hearted, so defeated they’ve given up… I can’t get enough of them! And Marrok was definitely all those things, so this story should have been right up my alley. The problem for me was in the story itself. That said, I need a believable plot to go with said steam, otherwise it’s just a sticky, humid mess. And yes, that’s what it felt like to me. It didn’t grab me, it didn’t even give me a gentle nudge, and I wasn’t at all invested in the characters.I freely admit that it might have just been bad timing, or maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for this type of story, because based on overall ratings, this should have been a winner. Someday I’ll give it another try, and hopefully finish it.
